About the practice
  • What does "metanoia" mean?

Metanoia is a Greek word meaning a transformative shift of mind — the experience of perception, understanding, or sense of self moving beyond where it has been. Its etymological opposite is paranoia — the mind turned against itself. Metanoia is the other direction: the mind moving beyond its own current limits. It is a precise description of what good therapeutic work makes possible.

  • How is this different from seeing a psychologist or counsellor?

This practice integrates psychotherapy, clinical hypnosis, and coaching — meaning the work can move across therapeutic, developmental, and strategic dimensions within the same relationship. You do not need to see multiple practitioners for what are often overlapping needs. The work is also explicitly tailored: there is no fixed protocol or programme, only a careful response to what you specifically bring.

  • Is clinical hypnosis the same as stage hypnosis?

No. Clinical hypnosis is a research-supported therapeutic technique — distinct from entertainment hypnosis in every meaningful way. You remain fully conscious and in control throughout. You cannot be made to do or say anything against your will. The experience is closer to deep absorption — a focused, relaxed state in which the mind becomes more open to working with difficult material. Many clients find it the most immediately effective part of the work.

  • Do I need to have a specific problem to begin?

No. Many people begin with a general sense that something is not working — a persistent discomfort, a feeling of being stuck, or a transition they want to navigate thoughtfully. That is sufficient. We clarify together what the work might usefully focus on.

Sessions & fees
  • What does the initial consultation involve, and is it really free?

Yes, the initial consultation is at no cost. It typically runs 30–45 minutes and is a genuine conversation — not an intake form or a sales call. We talk about what has brought you here, you can ask whatever you need to ask, and we both get a sense of whether working together makes sense. There is no obligation on either side.

  • What do sessions cost?

Session fees are discussed during the initial consultation, where I can give you a clear figure based on the kind of work involved. I keep my fees reasonable and am open to discussing options where cost is a genuine barrier. Please raise this — it is a normal part of the conversation.

  • Are sessions covered by Medicare?

No. Medicare's Better Access initiative covers sessions with AHPRA-registered practitioners — psychologists, social workers, and occupational therapists — and does not extend to hypnotherapy or strategic psychotherapy. This is a limitation of the current system, not a reflection of the effectiveness of the work. Some private health funds do provide rebates for hypnotherapy; it is worth checking your cover. I am happy to provide receipts in whatever format your fund requires.

  • How long does the work take?

It varies significantly depending on what you bring and what you want to achieve. Some clients work intensively over a shorter period of 6–10 sessions; others prefer a longer, more gradual process. I do not operate with a prescribed number of sessions. We review regularly and you are always free to pause or end at any point.

  • Where are you based? Do you work internationally?

The practice is fully online and I work with clients across time zones by arrangement. There is no requirement to be in any particular country or region.

Confidentiality & other questions
  • Are sessions confidential?

Yes. What you share in sessions is held in strict confidence, within the standard ethical and legal limits that apply to all clinical practitioners — including mandatory reporting obligations where there is risk of serious harm. I am happy to discuss this in detail during our initial consultation.

  • Do you work with men, couples, or organisations?

The practice is primarily focused on women, though enquiries from men, couples, and families are considered on a case-by-case basis. I also work with organisations on leadership development and team wellbeing — please get in touch to discuss.

  • What if I am in crisis right now?

If you are in crisis or need immediate support, please reach out to a crisis service directly — this practice is not resourced for emergency response. In Australia: Lifeline 13 11 14 (24/7), Beyond Blue 1300 22 4636, or call 000 if you are in immediate danger. International resources are listed on the crisis resources page.
